Welcome to St. Peter's Kindergarten

St Peter’s Kindergarten holds a unique and special position in the Bayside Community. For many years it has provided a superior social and educational experience for three and four year old children in a caring, stimulating and challenging environment.

The Kindergarten is located within the grounds of St Peter’s Anglican Church, Brighton Beach, at the corner of Were and Moffat Streets. It was founded in 1956 by the Church, which was itself founded in 1908. The Church and parish continues its strong interest in and support for the Kindergarten. The St Peter's Kindergarten continues its strong links to the Church and to the Diocese of Melbourne and is an Anglican Early Childhood Services affiliated centre along with nineteen other kindergartens in the Diocese. The Vicar of St Peters is, ex officio, President of the St Peter's Kindergarten.

Koala Group

The Kindergarten is run by a Committee of Management and qualified staff. The Committee, as Proprietor, is comprised of parents and Parish representatives who are responsible for Kindergarten Management, policy formulation and regulatory compliance.

Many of our staff have been with us for several years and have helped shape the culture and character of the St Peter’s experience. All groups enjoy year round exposure to Chinese culture through our Chinese program as well as an on-going environmental awareness program.

The Kindergarten is a place where families are valued and parental involvement is encouraged. The Kindergarten is run by a voluntary Committee, which consists of parents and Church representatives. There are many varied roles on the Committee, with parents working together to ensure the smooth running of the Kindergarten for the children and families who attend. At St Peter’s Kindergarten we need and appreciate your help in various ways, and one of the most important is being ‘on duty’. It is a very special day for your child when you are there. Parents are asked to help out by doing duty 1-2 times a Term. During this time you may be involved in the children’s activities, spend some special time with your Kinder child, prepare morning tea etc. A roster is drawn up before each term commences so that parents may choose the days convenient to themselves.

Throughout the year children will be involved in excursions which compliment the program plan for each group. Parents will be asked to assist on such excursions to ensure their smooth running and that the best educational outcome is offered to their children. Parents are always welcome to come and share their special/creative skills with the children, (nursing, craft, yoga etc). In so doing the children are able to benefit from a wider variety of learning experiences.

St Peter’s is also a feeder into the local primary schools of Brighton Beach, St Joan of Arc Catholic Primary School and Brighton Primary as well as local private schools.
